Reader's note

The zero card of this suit shows a girl at the edge of a penthouse lobby with a ranch still on her soles. Upright, it is the beginning that owes nothing to anyone — a room below the maid's quarters and a summer with no map. Reversed, every voice in the building tells her she does not belong, and the card asks whether she will believe them or the man on the top floor. From my notes: the Fool never falls. She was always going to be the one who stayed standing.
